Appliance Text Console

Overview

This topic provides a basic description of the AppLogic Text Boot Console. The text boot console provides access to an appliance's boot console which is useful for debugging appliance boot problems.

Text Console

The text boot console is accessed by selecting an appliance and selecting login (text) from the Appliance drop-down menu (or from the toolbar). Note, this option is only available when the appliance is running and the appliance supports a text console (as specified in its class console string).

IDEA! When a user accesses the text boot console for an appliance, all user input from the keyboard is echoed to the screen (including passwords - passwords become visible). If you need to perform any operation where echoed text may be a problem, you should use the ssh console instead (provided that the appliance supports ssh access). Note, that the echoing of characters does not prevent you from running any commands in the console.

IDEA! After the text boot console is accessed for the first time, all subsequent attempts to access the console will result in an empty console (no text is visible). The user must press the enter key in order to get the text console working. This occurs because in most cases the console is waiting for input from the user - pressing enter will either show the login prompt for the appliance or the command line prompt.

IDEA! The text boot console is only supported for Linux and Solaris based appliances.
